Week Two Complete

Thursday
  • write month, day, and time; sentence; bean sprout
:30 - that's all we will be doing this morning. I feel awful and Howler is screaming her head off. Today Tamarin channeled Yoda and wrote "My dog Shaggy is." Which is logical since she started her sentence at the bottom of the page and worked her way up. I think we overdid school time yesterday. We'll probably take it easy this afternoon. Time to load up, get some breakfast, and try to find black soccer socks for the girls. Let's hope things come together after my doctor's appointment today so we can get a few things done.
  • picture books
:35 - in the doctor's office waiting room.
:40 - discussing all the different ways to show, say and count one, also measuring one.
  • Math gnomes
:25 - Tamarin had fun drawing her gnomes and doing some simple math. I asked her how much she thought 3x3 was expecting anything but 9 and she answered me correctly O.O color me surprised. Daddy got home and asked her 3x2, she got that right! Then we asked her other equations and got the expected random answers :) I like these gnomes! I wish there were more stories in the book, beyond this I'll have to come up with stories to go with the equations.....

Pushing the rest of the stuff that was on today to tomorrow.....

Friday

1:45 - physical education aka playdate at the park and lessons about mollusks, snails, frogs, and water bugs in the adjacent creek. I am the only mom that let my girls play in the creek. I bet the others thought I was a little off my rocker, but that's alright by me! The girls had a great time and it was fun getting to know some new people!

:30 - more physical education aka soccer practice for Lemur, Tamarin playing with an older sibling that was there as well and Howler throwing the ball at any adult that she could hit :p Fortunately they were very understanding about it! We also walked to 7-11 for an icy before hand so they better sleep good tonight!
  • Write month, day, and time; sentence; bean sprout
  • Encourage  Tamarin to read two of the BOB books
  • Chapter Book
  • Picture Books
  • Write a summer story book
  • Leaf imprints
  • Music: Recorder
It's now time to make dinner and then probably a second bath. Could I do some of this somewhere in between? Yeah, I probably could cram some of it in there, but why stress about it? We'll probably talk some more about sound and thunder while I make dinner and call it a night.

What worked this week?
Making a list of expectations worked very well!
What didn't work?
Breaking it down into daily increments. I think it would be better to write out a list of things that would be nice to accomplish this week in order of priority by category then work my way through it.
What worked?
BOB books! I ordered more!
What didn't work?
I think I can restrict the BOB books to twice a week instead of three. By the third installment she wasn't as excited about them.
What worked?
My expectations for Tamarin. She did not disappoint this week! There was only one day we had a small break down, but after a break she recovered and finished.
What didn't work?
Expecting that I could adjust accordingly on the fly for Lemur. I need to come up with things that she can be excited about, but not so different that Tamarin feels like she's missing out. I also need to plan more activities for Howler. The couple of things I did with her this week didn't hold her attention as long as I'd hoped so she ended up distracting the others or watching TV.
What worked?
Allowing the girls to decide when to take breaks, when they wanted to school. I didn't have to be the dictator, "Sit down and do it!" *to be read in Adam Sandler's voice* as much as I have in the past.
What didn't work?
I want to focus more on what the girls want to learn about. I was planning on using circle time to talk to them about what questions they have on anything and everything so I could gear some of the study on those things. As much as the concept of a circle time is contrary to my style it is something I NEED to incorporate.
