We headed east to Shawnee this week! First stop - the Mabee-Grerrer Art Museum to visit mummy Tutu (Who has a Facebook page, believe it or not. A nice guy dressed like a monk told us this on the way out of the museum). In case you don't know this museum is on the grounds of a Catholic University.
We were here for about 30 minutes. The older girls would have liked to have stayed longer, but little sister was starting to touch paintings O.O Mostly art from the 16 and 17th century Europe (and a pope's hat... the flat one, not the pointy one), but they also have pieces from China, Egypt, Greece, Nigeria, South/Central America (Mayan!), and I'm not even sure what else since I was chasing the toddler for most of the time we were there.
I'm not sure if it's because it's run by Catholics, but no one batted an eye at my gaggle of girls and they just smiled when they got a bit noisy... now that's my kind of art museum :)
Then we ended at the Santa Fe Depot.
Honestly the girls were probably more impressed here because there were things to touch :) And this:
This museum mostly has memorabilia of the 20th Century and mostly relating to the history of Shawnee, OK. There's an old car, household items, a model of the town, some items from WWI, and honestly so many other knick knacks I would have needed hours to notice everything. For such a small building they have a ton of items.
The girls lasted about 30 minutes here too, but this museum is run on donations so for $5 one can't complain.
