Week 2 Check In......

Monday Plan vs Reality:

I included time spent because that is another question I hear a lot, "How much time do you spend schooling?"
  • Decorate September in the calender.
  • write month, day, day of week, and time in journal
  • write a sentence
:45 - Lemur participated the first 10 and last 10 minutes. Howler took part in the first 10 and then turned her attention to pulling all the clean laundry out of the crib.
  • read picture books till they get bored
  • Encourage Tamarin to read two of the BOB books.
1:05 - Howler hung in there till I read the Lorax, the last book I read before Tamarin moved on to the BOB books.
  • Draw an A sheet
:30 - with Lemur by herself while sisters slept.
  • Start a bean sprout
  • Continue building sight words
  • Collect things for Fall season table
  • Read a chapter from a big book with Tamarin
We got a late start and a long nap today. Nothing else got done after making dinner.

Tuesday Plan Vs Reality
I have an ultrasound and doctor's appointment this morning. My mother in law is watching Howler so the older two can come look at the ultrasound. Good learning experience. We can talk about how sound works. I'm taking the A stories, the gnome story, picture books, and our chapter book with us. I'm bringing our school journals so we can draw and write while in the waiting room. Also bringing a few coloring books for when Lemur gets bored of listening. All this is possible because of my big green bag. I love this bag. I try to have some books, notebooks and either crayons or markers in it at all times. It either lives in the car or by the front door.
  • Bean sprout
:10 - I let each of them put a bean in the dirt inside our cd case, we taped it up and put it in our window. Didn't have time to draw it in our journal, but hopefully will when we get back home.
  • write month, day, day of week, and time in journal
  • write a sentence
  • Read both A Stories
  • read picture books till they get bored
Managed to accomplish all this in the 3:30 hours we were at the doctor's office, between the ultrasound, doctor appointment and getting bloodwork done. Didn't keep track of the time spent though, had my hands full!
  • Read a chapter from a big book with Tamarin.
  • Math gnomes
  • Continue building sight words
  • Help them write a story about their favorite thing from the summer, turn it into a little book.
  • Decorate October in the calender.
  • Music: piano
  • circle time
Didn't accomplish anywhere near what I wanted to today, but the doctor was running behind, of course. Since I was so close to Mustang I had to stop for meat. I had to pick up a new soccer ball for Tamarin because I misplaced our old one and her first practice was tonight. It left me with just enough time to drive home, get her dressed then turn around and leave. Right now all I want to do is eat ice cream and watch grimm so I gave my girls the nutellacicles that I put in the freezer yesterday and begged them to watch scooby doo in my room and leave me in peace on the couch. I guess I should take this time to put together a better goal list for tomorrow.....

Rest of Week Plan with Carry Over Vs Reality
  • circle time
  • Moon - one of the science experiment books (pg6)
  • Fall craft TBD (need some pinterest time :p) Probably something from here.
  • Collect things for Fall season table
  • Decorate October in the calender.
  • Music: piano.
  • Sewing
Moving all this to next week. Part of the reason I have to move so much to next week is I found a homeschool group that meets once a month and guess what, they meet Friday. So my catch up day just turned into a mostly play day :)

Wednesday
  • write month, day, and time; sentence; bean sprout
:40 - Why so long? Because Tamarin decided she wanted to write, "I like grapes." Nothing too hard about that. Except she also wanted to write "Grapes like I." and "Separg ekil I." ... Okay, sure, why not.
  • Chapter book
1:00 - a lot of that involved dealing with sisters, refilling sippy cups, helping change clothes because the head does not go through the arm hole for some odd reason, and fighting with the packaging on these new fangled bandaids because Howler decided she wanted a hulk to go with her princesses. It doesn't help that I'm a slow reader anyway. Lemur meanwhile was playing with daddy's old phone and discovered she likes Alien Antfarm......
  • Bake a pie and some bread for poor daddy getting dental work done today
1:00 - they had fun experimenting with condensation. I introduce the concept that just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there as well as the words, liquid, solid and gas. We drew it in our journal. I then introduced fractions as we made Chris' pie. I showed them how two 1/2 cup filled 1 cup. I sliced a piece of bread into four pieces and had them show me how much bread was represented by 1/4 cup and 1/2 cup. Then we journaled that as well. Retention - doubtful, but maybe some of it might stick!
  • Encourage Tamarin to read two of the BOB book
:30 - First we flip through and Tamarin tells me her story to go with the pictures. Amazing how she can get a very complicated sequence of events from one simply picture sometimes :p
  • Flower Press
:20 - collected flowers on the way home from soccer. They are happily hanging from our art wall, properly labeled.
I am spent. There will be no more learning today, well at least there will be no more thinking on my part.. Shower and bed.
