Week 10 Complete: Cheating

Another pretty bare bones week. We reviewed the same stuff we've covered in previous weeks, read our books, did some math, and wrote our sentences.

What was different this week: Cheating.... or I suppose being resourceful. This week Tamarin figured out if she used words on the alphabet cards on the wall she wouldn't have to sound out her sentences. She wanted to write a sentence about a zebra and an ostrich. I told her ostrich was a hard word, but she was sure that's what she wanted to write. I left the room to deal with her sisters and was shocked when I returned that she had spelled it right. It only took a few more seconds for me to realize what she had done. I told her that was very smart on her part, but the reason we write the sentences is so she can practice sounding things out. Now that she's figured this out I'm sure she'll do it again, but I have to admit part of me is proud she was smart enough to figure out a short cut :) Sounds like something I probably did.

Halloween caused some focus problems this week which is understandable. Even my public school teacher friends commented on how this week was tough with the excitement and sugar induced hysteria.

I am the type that doesn't take their candy from them. I let the kids have at and when the excitement dies down put what's left away. This really works well for me. Most of the candy gets licked or one bite and left behind. Very little of it actually gets eaten. I think it's good at teaching them to not do what many of us adults do, we buy a package of candy and then realize we ate quite a bit more than we should have. They try the candy and if they like it they will eat it and what I've seen is Tamarin usually wants to share the candy she likes. She wants me or Chris to try it and see if we like it too. Lemur tends to save the candy she likes for later. Howler just likes unwrapping everything. By Thursday evening they were candied out and I put it up. They haven't asked about it since... Chris on the other hand......
