Week One

We started the week with a visit to the library. If you haven't signed your kids up for their summer reading program it's not too late! Tamarin had read her quota for June so she got to pick out a free book! She was so excited! So much that she finished her July quota in a little over a week because she wants to go back for another.

We picked up these books:

Science:
We did two lessons out of REAL Science Odyssey this week. Alive or not?/Animal Cell and Cnidarians.

We made life cycle models of jelly fish, but I didn't get pictures before Capuchin destroyed them while they were drying :(

We took a trip to Petco to look at the salt water fish tanks filled with anemones and sea fans. Then we perused Pinterest (I went back and pinned our favorite pictures). The girls were most impressed with the jelly fish bigger than a human :)

History:
I cut a five foot piece off of our paper roll and started our timeline. I divided this timeline as follows:
15 billion years ago Big Bang
4.5 BYA Hadean
3.8 BYA Archean
2.5 BYA Proterozoic
541 million years ago Paleozoic with space to note 300, 250, and 200 MYA
66 MYA Cenozoic with space to note 2.5-1.5 MYA

I know these dates are mostly wibbly-wobbly, but I did the best I could between the Usborne Encyclopedia of World History and their links, National Geographic, BBC Nature, and Encyclopedia Brittanica.

Basics:
We are alternating daily between the Handwriting Without Tears books and Draw Write Now which seems to keep the monotony down a bit. So far.... fingers crossed, knock on wood.

Extras:
Even though we've given up private piano lessons till sometime next year I am doing my best to keep Tamarin interested and start Lemur. I am not quite getting it done every day, but these books are simple enough I think anyone could do it.
