What I Did Over Summer Vacation

Yep, it's over. This is the last week of break. We are going to start our school year next week so that we can take a long break over winter holidays. So here are my highlights from this summer (I'll post the kid's take on summer vacation later):

#1 - Getting sick is worse in the summer than in winter.

During winter, "Oh no, I can't come out in the crappy, cold, icy weather to meet up because I'm curled up in bed with a million tissues and nyquil."

During summer, "No, I can't come out in the perfect weather and enjoy a day at the splash park because I'm home stuck in the bathroom."

#2 - Siberia

If you have not watched this show, don't. It's a train wreck. Acting is terrible, camera work awful, plot line sucks. Avoid, because IF you start then you won't be able to stop watching because you just can't see how it could get any worse, but sure enough it does.

#3 - Riding lawnmowers are not as fun when you have to use them more than once a week.

We got more rain than I think we've ever had over a summer. By now the landscape is brown, scorched remnants of something that would be living in a kinder climate. It's all so lush and green! AND LONG! I've lived in this state my entire life and I've never seen a green August. Not to mention the more you use it the more it breaks down.......

 #4 - Adam Sandler

I do not look forward to the day my children discover that dopey daddy Dracula is actually a perverted and rude (all be it most of the time hilarious) comedian. It will probably be just as disconcerting to them as it is for me hearing his voice NOT cursing or singing about how awful we've been to Whitey (bum biddie biddie biddie bum bum).

#5 - It shouldn't take a friend staring down death to make you appreciate things.

A friend of mine was just diagnosed with Lymphoma. I have high hopes for my friend. Fingers crossed that they caught on early enough that with treatment she will be just fine. Definitely a reminder to appreciate the people in your life.

It made me realize I've been living in a crappy little bubble this summer obsessed with the mystery of Howler - What she'll be diagnosed. If she'll ever catch up developmentally. What if she doesn't and I have a dependent adult child? Ugh, what an idiot! I spent plenty of valuable minutes this summer focusing on things that I can't change in anyway and not appreciating the moments I'm in. Also obsessing about it has left my brain starved of creativity for myself and my kids. What a waste! Well, that stops now.

Anyway, there's the highlights of my summer 2013. On to the school year!
